چکیده
► Two concentrations of weathered PCBcontaminated soil were amended with (0, 0.2, 0.7, 2.8, and 11.1% w/w) of biochar. ► Biochar additions decreased the uptake of PCBs into plant tissue by 89% after 50 days. ► Biochar amendment significantly decreased the bioavailability of PCBs to earthworms by 88% after 50 days of exposure. ► Biochar has potential to serve as a mitigation technology at Brownfield sites. Abbreviations: PCBs, polychlorinated biphenyls; PO ants; AC, activated carbon; PAH, polyaromatic hydro College of Canada; MAE, microwave assisted extraction; BAF, bioaccumulation factor. ⁎ Corresponding author. متن کاملThe relationship between the characteristics of Biochar produced at different temperatures and its impact on the uptake of NO3--N
Background: Nitrogen leaching from agricultural lands is a major threat to groundwater and surface waters. This study investigated the relationship between the characteristics of wheat-straw biochar produced at different temperatures and its impact on the uptake of NO3--N. Methods: Three types of biochar were produced from wheat straw at three different pyrolysis temperatures of 300, 400 and 5...

متن کاملEffect of Acidic Biochars on Some Chemical Properties and Nutrient Availabilities of Calcareous Soils
Low organic matter content and alkaline pH of calcareous soils in arid and semi-arid regions are the main reasons for the low nutrient availabilities for plants in these soils. One way to improve the chemical properties and fertility of calcareous soils is the application of organic substances such as biochar produced from pyrolysis of organic wastes. However, biochars have an almost predominan...
متن کاملSewage Sludge Biochar: Physicochemical Properties and Fractionation of Zinc and Lead Metals
One of the significant factors affecting biochar properties is the pyrolysis temperature. This study aimed to investigate the effect of pyrolysis temperature on the properties and fractionation of Zn and Pb in biochars produced by sewage sludge. Biochars were prepared at temperatures of 300 to 700 °C and the physicochemical properties, availability, and fractionation of Zn and Pb were investiga...
